the idea
DRIFT is a series of floating cinema pavilions designed for divers visiting Bikini Atoll. Visitors arrive by boat and encounter films about the site before continuing their exploration underwater.

The Marshall Islands carry a history of nuclear testing that displaced communities from their ancestral islands, while the lagoon has since become a dive site over sunken ships. DRIFT works within that tension—inviting visitors to encounter the history above the surface before descending into the landscape that holds its traces below.
The island’s history survives through an extensive visual archive. DRIFT brings these images back to the site, transforming documentation into a shared cinematic experience.
